A shih tzu puppy may be a wonderful addition to your family but you have to be versed in how to care for these delicate puppies. Shih tzu puppy care is not as complicated as say, beagle puppy care, because shih tzu puppies do not need much exercise or to go outside often. However shih tzu puppies do need a lot of rest during their first few weeks of life and you need to be careful not to play with them too much during this time. It is also essential to keep shih tzus from feeling any stress because this can have detrimental effects.

The Importance of Love and Attention in Shih Tzu Puppy Care

Like any breed, shih tzu puppies need love and attention but this breed is particularly needy. Shih tzu puppy care may be difficult for people who are forced to leave their puppy alone for an extended period. In order to thrive, shih tzu puppies need constant love and attention. If you have a busy schedule and don’t think you will be able to spend much time with your puppy, you might want to reconsider getting a shih tzu.

Leave your shih tzu puppy with a big stuffed animal as a companion and leave him raw hide bones to chew on. Shih tzu puppies need bones and chewing toys during their teething stage because otherwise they tend to chew on wooden furniture.

Shih tzu puppy care and training is made easier by the fact that shih tzu puppies are very good at learning and following commands.Shih tzu puppies respond well to the “ee” sound so you should give them a name that incorporates this sound. If you do so, you’ll find that when you give commands your shih tzu will respond more quickly. When your shih tzu does something wrong such as by eliminating in the wrong place, never respond by hitting him. Scolding goes a long way.

Use potty pads for your shih tzu to eliminate on. Shih tzu puppies are fast learners and will eliminate on potty pads. You will be able to tell when your shih tzu puppy wants to eliminate because he will squat.By taking your puppy immediately to the potty pad when he does this, you will teach him to do it on his own. Reward your puppy with a special treat if he does it on his own.

Shih tzu puppies between six and twelve weeks of age often suffer from hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. This condition is often caused by stress. If your dog is listless, wobbly, depressed, or starts vomiting, this may be a sign of hypoglycemia. This is one of the most difficult aspects of shih tzu puppy care because it can come on suddenly and often as a result of the puppy being placed in a new home or being shipped. If your puppy goes unconscious, put a Nutri-cal tablet on his tongue and hold his mouth shut for one minute. Wrap him up in a blanket and take him to the vet immediately.

Feeding your shih tzu puppy a high quality kibble diet of lamb or chicken can go a long way in preventing these attacks from occurring.
While this only describes the beginning of shih tzu puppy care, don’t feel overwhelmed. Shih tzu puppies make great companions but there’s no denying that the first few weeks of shih tzu puppy care take some getting used to. After you find your rhythm you’ll find that a shih tzu puppy is relatively easy to take care of and makes a wonderful addition to the family.

If you prefer a bouncy, energetic small dog over a calm, lap dog, a yorkie may be a good choice for you. Yorkie puppy care is no different than shih tzu puppy care or other types of puppy care. Yorkies need food, attention, water, and a lot of grooming. Because yorkies have long coats, they require more grooming than those of other toy breeds.

Yorkie Puppy Care and Training

Yorkies are a pretty stubborn breed and can be difficult to train. Very young yorkie puppies do not learn very fast so you have to be very patient. Most yorkie owners have success in housetraining their yorkies when they are around 5 to 6 months old.It is important in yorkie puppy care and housetraining to never spank them when they eliminate in the wrong place. Instead, scold them. Yorkie puppies are intent on pleasing their masters and they can understand that you are upset when you scold them. Do reward a yorkie puppy when he eliminates in his litter box like he is supposed to.

Yorkies are highly energetic and need extra attention for that reason. They tend to expend more energy than they have so it’s important to provide a constant supply of water since dehydration can happen very quickly. It is also important to be careful that their blood sugar doesn’t get too low. You can prevent that by giving them a little bit of sweet water or syrup. If that doesn’t do the trick, you should take them to the vet. Generally problems with low blood sugar subside after the puppy reaches 12 weeks of age.
Yorkies need to be groomed daily because of their long coats. If you don’t brush their coats they will get matted. In yorkie puppy care it is important to never brush a dry coat.Always spray their coat with a little bit of water and conditioner prior to brushing. Brushing will keep yorkie puppies clean but yorkie male puppies need to be washed with a damp cloth daily on the side of the body where they urinate.

In yorkie puppy care it is important to feed the food recommended by the breeder for the first two weeks.Yorkie puppies should eat two to three times per day. After the first two weeks you can start mixing the recommended food with premium dry food. It’s important to feed your puppy premium food otherwise he can have digestive problems.
In conclusion, yorkie puppy care is not much different from other kinds of puppy care.Your new yorkie will require a lot of love, maintenance and attention but within a few weeks you will surely fall into a comfortable routine. It might seem like a lot of work at first but once you find your rhythm, your yorkie will be like just any other member of your family.

Buying a new pet, especially a dog can be very exciting. It is worth considering your lifestyle choices and those who live with you before choosing a dog breed. Choosing any family pet may depend on several factors which must be taken into account. Perhaps the most important question is: are you prepared to take good care of the animal and treat it accordingly?

If the answer to the above question is yes, the next step is to decide the reason you would like a dog. There can be many reasons such as protection, as a pet for a child, as a show dog or simply for the sake of companionship. This is an important factor in choosing the correct breed.

After that you should consider your living circumstances as many of the other decisions will depend on this. You should consider the area in which you live: do you live in the town or countryside? This can limit how often and where you can take a dog for walks. Next you should consider the size of your house: do you have ample space for the new dog to cohabit with the owners and any existing pets? Does your house have a garden where the creature can play or rest? It is also worth thinking about how often the pet will be left alone each day. If you are going for an expensive rare breed this will obviously have to be very limited; however on the flipside if you decide to choose a big energetic dog then you still may not be able to leave it alone for extended periods.

Another side of lifestyle considerations is the associated costs with raising a pet. Ideally you should have a budget for basic needs such as foods and cleaning products. You should also take into account the possibility of other events happening. For example a situation may arise where you will need to leave the dog with somebody for an extended period of time on a paid basis. You should also think about health costs and possible veterinary services. A limited budget also means that your ability in choosing specially bred dogs may be more limited. However this should not stop you from being able to find a good pet.

Pets like human beings require attention and care. To many people their dog is a normal member of the household. Dogs must be given regular exercise and training to keep them active and in a healthy state. They must have necessarily health checks and be given essential vaccinations. Taking the dog down to the park for a walk is something you should fit into your weekly schedule.

Once you have acknowledged the extent of your lifestyle and your ability in raising a pet, it is time to decide the type of breed. The first thing to think about is the size. Make sure to discuss this with other members of the family as this is a big limitation on what breed of dog you may choose. Do you really have enough space for a German Shepard? Or are you prepared to deal with small Chihuahuas running around the house and having to look for them from time to time?

Perhaps one of the most underestimated things about any pet is the aging of the animal. Animals have a different lifespan to human beings. The reason that this is important is as important as buying the pet in the first place. Considering many people buy dogs for company, a family can very easily become attached to the animal. The pet becomes a ‘member’ of the family. For many people loosing a pet can be as shocking as loosing a very close relative.

Once you have planned and taken into account all factors, its time to make the exciting trip down the pet store or going to see a few dogs with other family members. Then you can hopefully make a decision as to who you would like to welcome to your house as new member.

This article concerns the issue of beagle rescue. Before that topic is addressed, it is important to know a little bit about this breed of dog. The beagle dog breed dates back historically to 19th century England. The breed was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1885. Since that time the beagle has gained popularity. These sturdy dogs have always been known as excellent hunting dogs. They are also known for their independent spirit and loving temperament. Beagles have an excellent sense of smell and a natural affinity for the chase. These dogs are also good family pets. The breed gets along well with most other breeds of dog but may not take to the family cat so readily unless socialized with cats and/or other species from birth.

The breed gets along well with most other breeds of dog but may not take to the family cat so readily unless socialized with cats and/or other species from birth.

Beagles have attractive physical characteristics; they have short, sleek fur, a sturdy body structure, and brown eyes with a characteristically sad expression. Beagles may be tri-colored in varying shades such as black/white/orange or black/white/yellow. Their attractive physical as well as personality traits make beagles very desirable pets.

Because of the popularity of beagles, breeders have capitalized on selling litters of these adorable puppies. Unfortunately, some breeders are not always ethical in their treatment of the breed, raising many in what are termed “puppy mills” where beagles are fed and bred but receive little or no socialization.

The general public demands purebred puppies and breeders try to deliver to make a profit. Unfortunately, the general population often engages in impulse shopping rather than planning for the ten to fifteen year commitment that a pet entails.

These practices have caused many beagles to be placed in dire situations in need of rescue. Whether abused in puppy mills or abandoned by their owners, rescue centers take in purebred dogs as an alternative to placing them in traditional shelters. There are beagle and other rescue centers that take in animals specific to the breed and there are centers that take in many breeds. These centers utilize volunteers to buy, rescue, socialize, and foster or adopt out purebred animals who have been mistreated.

Rescue beagles can be raised to be grateful, loving members of the family if given time, care, and attention. The first and most important tip in raising your rescue is to follow the directions and care guidelines of the beagle rescue center. Second, it is valuable to the owner to know their breed.

It is also important to know your breed. Beagles are active dogs and require at least one long walk per day. Because of this, a small apartment in the city may not be an adequate environment for this particular breed.

Some or all of these behaviors will resolve with time and positive reinforcement. Creating a schedule and setting boundaries are as important in making your rescue feel secure as treating him/her with patience and love. Finally, keep in contact with the rescue center for advice and additional resources and discuss any behavioral issues as they occur.

If you are thinking of getting a Siberian Husky from a shelter or Siberian Husky rescue, a good place to find out about the kind of dog you are getting is through studying the breed standard. If you want to show your Siberian Husky, then you really should get your dog from a reputable Siberian Husky breeder. If you do go that route, then you will need to know the breed standard just to be sure you are getting your money’s worth.

In learning Siberian husky information, it is usually best to know the breed standard. This is an idealized blueprint that you match your dog to. In a show, the winner is the dog that comes closest to matching that breed standard. In real life, no Husky ever can. But getting close to the breed standard can help you identify an abandoned dog’s breed in your local shelter or animal rescue center.

It has only been in the last few decades that Huskies were bred for looks rather than for function. This shows in a great many purebred Siberian Huskies, which is one of the reasons why they can be abandoned. Some people not only want a purebred Siberian husky, they want one that looks like the fictional ideal of the Siberian Husky set out in the American Kennel Club. For the most part, Siberian Huskies are abandoned through no fault of their own.

The tail is to be bushy and in a sickle-shape. Although most famous for having ice blue eyes, they can also come in brown eyes, bicolor eyes and, believe it or not, irises which are half brown and half blue in one or both eyes.

Looking at the dog in the rescue center that you suspect is a Siberian Husky, you take the breed standard and compare. The dog does not need to match in every category (no dog can).

According to reliable Siberian Husky information, not all purebred Huskies have pointed ears. The puppies are born with floppy ears that do not stand up until the puppy is about six months old. But sometimes, the ears just stay floppy. Huskies also should not have a tightly curled tail for showing, or have too low a tail set however, this happens a lot in purebred Huskies.

According to reliable sources on Siberian Husky information (owners and rescue organizations), Huskies are quiet, serious dogs who make very bad guard dogs. They need a lot of exercise or they will rip your house up. They need to see a point in obeying any command.

For example, Siberian Huskies need an average amount of grooming, a lot of exercise and are usually quite healthy. This knowledge can help you find the best shelter dog for you.

By their nature, French Bulldog puppies are very eager to please and friendly. However, despite their gentle nature with humans they are also very aggressive to other dogs. It is very important that you take the necessary time to properly socialize your French Bulldog puppies with other pets and people. Your dog should be taken to a professional trainer the minute you notice any aggression towards humans.

To help socialize your puppy from an early age you should take them around other people and pet. In a public setting allow them to interact and play with strangers, but keep and establish your authority over the dog at all times. Dominance needs to be established early with this breed in order for your pet to be obedient later in life. You will find authority difficult to get later on if you don’t establish it early since French Bulldog puppies are extremely dominant. Proper socialization is also the key to helping your puppy develop an even temper.

It is also important when raising French Bulldog puppies that you get them their vaccinations and then maintain their yearly booster shots so that they remain immune to common diseases. You will also want to ask your veterinarian about flea control products and worming treatments.

Using a high-grade dog food is important for French Bulldog puppies. The first ingredient in high quality dog food is meat. The food your choose for your puppy should have no less than thirty percent crude protein, twenty percent crude fat and four percent fiber.

Exercise should be done everyday for a minimum of thirty to forty-five minutes. French Bulldog puppies are active and will require a lot of activity. When in public the puppy should be kept on a leash to prevent fights with other dogs. Even if your dog seems calm at home, you will quickly see another side to your dog when they come into contact with other dogs while outside on walks.

Starting obedience training early is also important. Since the breed is extremely dominant it is important that you be able to command them with voice alone. Positive reinforcement is likely to bring the best results rather than physical due to the breeds eager to please nature. In fact the cold shoulder approach works best when disciplining bad behavior in French Bulldog puppies.

You also need to be calm when raising French Bulldog puppies. This plays an important part in raising the breed. If your dog is near you when you are afraid of a person or feels you are in danger from someone they will attack that person quickly.

If you dog sense for any reason that you are afraid of someone or that you are in danger from another person they will quickly attack that person. So when around strangers remain calm or maintain tight control over your puppy to avoid injuries to another person.

Rottweiler rescue organizations say there are two reasons people give up their Rottweiler dogs, either there are problems with the people, or problems with the dog. Rottweiler owners should take responsibility for the people problems and fulfill their commitment to the dog. Some owners got their Rottweilers as companions during lonely times. These owners perhaps got bored with their Rottweilers when romance came along, or after marriage when it was time to think about starting a family. Getting a Rottweiler is definitely a lifelong commitment, and owners who want to give their Rottweilers up for selfish reasons should reconsider and follow through with their commitment.

Whatever the reason, every year hundreds of Rottweilers find new homes through the assistance of Rottweiler rescue organizations. Rottweiler rescue groups get to know every single dog they place and match each new home carefully with a dog. The groups match abandoned dogs with new homes where they are loved and thrive.

Don’t be afraid to take a leadership role with a Rottweiler that you get from a rescue organization. The Rottweiler is a confident breed whose friendship must be earned, and your dog will be relieved to let you take a role of leadership and establish a hierarchy between the two of you.

Rottweiler rescue dog owners should take obedience training with their dogs. These classes are an enjoyable experience for both the owner and the dog, and they will either be a welcome review for a dog that may have received training earlier in life or provided much-needed structure for a Rottweiler who has never had formal training.

Rottweilers crave leadership, and your rescue dog will be relieved when you assume the responsibility for leadership in your relationship. In addition to discipline and training, adequate exercise is essential for a Rottweiler to keep the dog’s energy in balance. A well-exercised dog is easier to control and discipline than a dog filled with pent-up energy.

Rottweiler rescue organizations screen dogs and their prospective owners. All dogs surrendered must be current in their vaccinations and health treatments, and they are required to undergo tests that assess their physical condition and their temperament. Owners who surrender their dogs pay a nominal fee to cover the screening process. The fee also serves to discourage owners from dumping dogs on the rescue group.

If you are interested in adopting a rescue dog, contact a Rottweiler rescue organization near you. Most organizations will require that you be at least 21 years old and that you have the permission and consent of all adults in your household. If you don’t own your own home, you will be required to provide written permission from the owner for you to adopt a Rottweiler. If you are discouraged by these requirements, please remember that they are designed to reduce the possibility of an irresponsible owner having to return a rescue dog and to make sure prospective owners understand the commitment required to adopt a Rottweiler.

The Rottweiler rescue group will match you with a dog and place the dog temporarily with you in foster care for a trial period to see how you and the dog get along. You will be required to pay a nominal fee, commensurate with the age and health of the dog you adopt. Charging adoption fees helps to defray the rescue organization’s expenses and helps to reinforce the commitment involved in adopting a dog. The process eliminates would-be adopters who are not willing to make the personal sacrifices needed to help the adoption succeed.

Now that you are moving on to Intermediate Training, consider teaching your best buddy the Lie Down command. He is quick to Sit on command at this point and the Lie Down behavior is merely a step away.

Choose your treat, command your dog to Sit and move the treat towards the ground. Each time, move the treat a bit closer to the ground prior to allow him to take it. Continue this process without allowing him to move from the Sit position. If he gets up, be patient — this may take a bit of time. After he has mastered the first move, try moving the treat a little farther away but still keeping it on the ground. Now, in order for him to retrieve this goody, he must Lie Down. Now is the time to use the command, “Lie Down”. Be consistent with this technique and eventually fade out the treat.

You must communicate to your dog that pulling on his leash is unacceptable. Good manners are a must and lunging and jumping at other people or pets is simply bad behavior. Begin teaching him to walk next to you by making small circles, walking very slowly. Change from walking to the left to walking to the right. Eventually, there will be total slack in the leash. But hey! Once in a while, allow him to smell the roses. Every dog loves to explore and your baby deserves this treat occasionally.

After your little friend is consistent with the Sit behavior, training him to Sit Up is a snap. Choose a bit of food or his favorite treat, hold it over his head while he is in a Sitting position but low enough so that he can reach it. Continue this maneuver but raise the treat a bit higher each time so that he must stretch for it but still remain seated.

Now, you must hold the treat higher yet. Uh oh, he won’t be able to take it unless he raises his front paws from the ground. At this point, use the verbal cue, “Sit Up” and immediately reward him. Very shortly, he will understand what is going on and you may fade out the treat gradually, use only your hand and give the cue “Sit Up.”

The Intermediate Behaviors Training will be a fun challenge for both you and your dog. Be consistent, patient and gentle with your little guy. He only wants your approval and acceptance.

Part of being a responsible dog owner is to make sure that your dog has a well balance diet. Make sure you include foods that contain protein, carbohydrates, and good fats. By providing your dog with a well balanced diet you are making sure that she has a long, happy, and healthy life. A proper diet will also provide her with a beautiful coat and bundles of energy.

The question that many people have is… What is the proper balance for my dog’s diet? Here is a general rule of thumb for your to follow…

2 - 25% protein
20 - 35% fat
40 - 60% carbohydrates
Along with these essential nutrients you should also provide your dog with vitamins and minerals.

However, keep in mind that dogs have very different needs than us. Vitamin B1 is an important supplement that they need. This is because dogs are not very good at storing vitamin B1 in their bodies and it is absent from many dog foods.

Feeding your dog only lean meat will not provide them with all the necessary nutrients. In nature, dogs eat their entire prey which contains everything they need. As responsible owners we shoud try an make their environment as natural as possible.

Studies have been done to look at the habits of dogs and what they eat. These studies have shown that dogs prefer cooked and mushy food over those that are raw and meaty. However, dogs are not usually very picky and many will eat almost anything we give them. So we need to ensure that we are giving them the best.

Most dog owners tend to feed their dogs commercial dog food. They often contain essential vitamins and minerals. The manufacturers know that the dog food must be stored easily so they package them in convenient ways such as bags or cans. Dog owners just love that. The downside is that usually the more convenient and attractive the packaging, the more expensive the food. Wouldn’t you agree?

This is one of the reason more and more dog owners are turning to home cooking for their dogs. The problem here is that it can be hard to provide our pets with the proper balance in their diet this way. The things that we eat and cook for ourselves are not good for them.

The key is to do some research and make sure that you are providing your dog with the best possible source of her nutrition to ensure healthy pets.

Things can go wrong if we are not careful with what we are giving our dogs. For example, too much milk powder in their food may cause scouring because some dogs have a hard time digesting lactose. Instead of creating your own recipes a better way might be to search for recipes that have been time tested.

Another is consideration is to be careful of bones. Try and avoid most bones, although your dog does enjoy a good bone. Small, cooked bones are more likely to splinter posing a risk for your dogs. So try to stay away from cooked chicken bones, lamb chops, and fish bones. Fish bones are probably the worst of all.

Over time you will learn what is best for your dog. If a certain meal did not sit well with her she will probably avoid it in the future and you can make a note of that. Just remember to follow the unique requirements of your dog’s diet and you will be fine. Then you will have a happy and healthy dog who will share your life for a long time.
